Confluence Project
Confluence is a collaboration between the contemporary landscape painter, Rachel Teannalach, and the nonprofit environmental law firm, Advocates for the West. In this project, the artist and a group of dedicated nature conservationists are working in tandem to advocate for the Pacific Salmon and the elaborate river and ocean ecosystems of which it is a part. Teannalach has created a series of paintings of the majestic landscapes through which the salmon swims on its way to from Sawtooth Valley in Idaho to the Pacific Ocean. These paintings will be exhibited along the route in public exhibitions, accompanied by the Advocates team. The art intends to inspire the heart, while the information presented by Advocates will give insight into the science, politics and current status of the Pacific Salmon's plight. Enjoy the gallery of images below. 25% of all purchases of prints and original artwork goes towards Advocates for the West's fight for the survival of the salmon and all those who depend on the health of our rivers and oceans
We will be rescheduling events for 2021 in accordance to Covid-19 safety guidelines. Schedule will be updated as life unfolds.

About the Artist
Rachel Teannalach is a contemporary landscape painter based in Boise, Idaho. She grew up in northern New Mexico, where she gained her appreciation for landscape painting through artists such as Georgia O'Keefe and Maynard Dixon. Teannalach earned her BA in Fine Arts from Scripps College for Women (Claremont) before working as an artist, among other things, in Marin County for six years. She arrived in Idaho in 2008, where she felt at home by the mountains in the high desert. During her ten years in Boise, Teannalach has developed an intimate relationship with a wide range of Idaho landscapes, traveling throughout the state to paint and research for collaborations with conservation organizations, supporting their efforts to preserve the lands she loves to paint. In 2014, Teannalach helped Idaho Conservation League establish its Artist in Resident program. She also works with Conservation Voters for Idaho. Confluence is her second collaboration with Advocates for the West.
Teannalach is well known for her daily "tinyExpanse" paintings, but also creates large-scale landscapes. Her work is characterized by bold brush strokes and reduction of detail to distill the essence of a landscape. Teannalach paints both Plein Air and in the studio, always using the “alla prima” (wet on wet) method to maintain freshness of brushwork.
Teannalach's work is guided by the belief that the observation of nature revives our recognition of beauty and restores our sense of belonging in the natural world. Painting provides a way to step out of the frenzy that life so easily becomes, to leave, in W.B. Yeats’ words, “a little space for the rose-breath to fill.”
